I’m pretty sure you wrote the whole article just so you could use that last sentence. And well done, sir!

Spot on as always, Doug. It would seem the only way the Giants are able to solve their problem signing big time free agents is by having their farm system actually produce offensive stars, so the team gets good and FA want to come here. This leads me to a request....can you please write a piece about what the heck is going on with the outfield? Today the Giants signed another AAAA outfielder, and I'm just so confused. We have so many meh corner outfielders. And how are Ramos or Matos or any other outfield prospect not going to see these signings as a slight? How are they going to get a chance to prove themselves? Help me understand what Farhan is doing. I think he may have a "flexibility/depth" disorder.

I might write that article -- I love ideas for Content -- but the simple answer to why the Giants picked up the new guy they picked up is that Farhan had an open 40-man spot and there's something interesting about him. Whoever the Giants pick up next, whether it's Yamamoto or Snell or Generically Boring Backup Shortstop, could very well kick him off the roster. Matos and Ramos -- well, I don't think the Giants actually have any plans for Ramos, so just Matos, but I could be wrong -- don't have much to worry about from the competition. They really just have to worry about themselves.

Thanks....yeah, actually the Giants inability to develop outfield stars goes back decades and across multiple front offices and even ownership groups. Its the Chili Davis curse. Davis was the last really good outfielder the Giants signed, developed and successfully promoted to the Bigs. In 1981! Since then, no one of that stature. It seems almost impossible when you consider how many outfielders have been on Giants minor league rosters over 40 years. The laws of probability would seem to dictate that at least two or three outfield prospects would "accidentally" turn out to be good? I can only think of the Chicago Bears/quarterback as equally amazingly bad. Might be a fun article to write. Especially rehashing the names and failed attempts.
