Thank you for pointing out this glaring contradiction, Doug!

I think its related to Trump supporting owners getting misty eyed talking about Jackie Robinson each year. And the path to the Majors in America which require youth travel ball leagues that cost a fortune.

Yup. The last time I was in Cooperstown it had been transformed by a stupid 'Field of Dreams' complex that caters to traveling kids' teams, and their parents who can afford the expense of traveling there. (Cooperstown is a long ways from anywhere, which used to make it attractive.)

I talked to some kids and parents about the complexity and competition it takes to qualify for the endless tournaments that play there all summer. I admired them, but for certain I wouldn't have been able to afford that as a kid, and I grew up in that area. It's overrun Cooperstown with commercialization, and diminished the HOF.

I would bet that 5% would vastly overstate the number of African American kids playing at the 'Field of [rich white] Dreams.' It was all so depressing.
