I read somewhere (in 2011) that Eugenio was on 2B (no doubt pinch-running), and mowed down the 3B ump on a subsequent hit. Vince Scully pipes up, "And Eugenio Velez FINALLY gets a hit for the Dodgers!" :o)
Sure, Eugenio Velez ended up doing some hard time for his transgressions. But for a dude who (according to bref) took home less than $2M from his escapades in MLB - kudos to him for avoiding bankruptcy? He is one up on former Giants Liván Hernández ($53.1M career earnings) and Miguel Tejada ($96.4M) on that score. Both those dudes have had their scrapes with law enforcement over the years as well: Liván suspected of laundering drug money and Tejada passing bad checks.
Eugenio is only four years removed from hitting .311/ .340/ .444 for Aguilas in LIDOM. I, for one, am hoping for a comeback!

He was so entertaining. It would have been just a bonus if he were also good.

You just have to believe
You should never meet Eugenios (Velez).
