Not everything can be blamed on the manager for the hitting woes, but Melvin deserves some accountability that beat writers are overlooking: 2 runners on, no outs. Can’t score. Same issue as last year. Same issue with 2023 Padres

I would also throw in his insistence on pinch hitting Baily whenever Huff is playing. I get doing a defensive substitution in the late innings, but I would take Huff over Baily at the plate in almost every situation currently. I'm not saying Huff is a great hitter, but Baily has been terrible for almost a year now.

As far as Wade goes, yeah I see a DFA coming. But before then, has anyone checked his vision with an eye test or tests? Seems to me he’s just not seeing pitches. Wade of old would have stood there and spit on the pitches he’s chasing and trying to hit.

As for Eldridge, he’s years away if ever. He was going to be a two way player till they decided to just make a position player and hitter out of him. I’m hoping he works out but it feels like a square peg, round hole situation.

Eldridge is not "years away". We probably see him by mid 2026 although there is an outside chance of early 2026 or even opening the season with him. If we don't see him till 2027, chances are he's not going to be the player they hope for. If we see him in late 2025 it's either because he has torn up AAA or he has shown enough to be a September call up. As far as him being a 2 way player, that was never the intent. I guess that if he can't make it as a hitter he could try pitching again but that's a last resort.

Actually he was considered one of that draft years best two way prospects. Now he’s just being developed as a hitter and 1B. I’m just really skeptical of what the Giants have in the minors other than developing pitchers. Ramos has been great though. They finally developed an OF again. The rest, hard to say. Matos and Luciano got brought up before they were ready. Scouts for 29 other teams said no way Luciano was a SS but the Giants decided to see and I felt sorry for Luciano getting put into a position he wasn’t ready for or equipped to handle.

Lots of injuries to players in their minors system too so some of them are delayed developing. My hope for Eldridge is they don’t bring him up this year. Don’t rush him, let him actually develop. Spring 2026 give him a look in spring training if it seems reasonable. Don’t just bring him up out of desperation. I kind of see that as the plan with their org now. Till then it’s make do with what there is.

And he put in Bailey to try and get those runs in.

In answer to the question posed by the headline, they are bad against pitchers because there is no one else to be bad against
