Doug, I recall a preseason exchange between the two of us where I opined that the Giants seemed to be anointing Fitz the 2nd base spot, without a shred of competition from Schmitt (or anyone else, for that matter), and you agreed. I don’t see this as a surprise at all; especially given Fitzgerald’s long history (as in, every level of the minors) of striking out a lot. I hope he can get well in Sac.
Gracias for providing a rational explanation for some seemingly irrational 2B transactions, Maestro. At least someone (besides me) hopes Fitzgerald can be fixed!
Would be very cool if Fitz gets right up in Sacto, Schmitt slides into the DH spot right when Devers starts really settling in at 1st and Chapman comes off the IL, Patrick Bailey somehow remembers how to hit a baseball hard and Willy stays hot. That infield wins you a dang division provided the SP's stay groovy and the OF stays fairly productive.
Giants fandom feels like waiting for the team to produce more than two runs. It's kind of always felt that way. Different names, different years, same waiting for offensive to show up.
“Mission Accomplished.” Nice.

Maybe! I did write a preseason newsletter about how Fitzgerald's season was probably going to be a letdown, which, yeah, that's fair to say.
Just went back and looked at some old comments and yeah, we were both saying that at the beginning of Spring Training.

I also have these magic beans for sale if anyone is interested
This idea is sound but needs more Eldridge raking in it.
So DH?
Sure, but slightly prefer Devers at DH and Eldridge at 1B.
